5 reasons to start brewing your own beer

Thinking to start brewing your own beer? Well, let us help you with 5 reasons why homebrewing is just for you!

When it comes to beer you mostly have two choices: either buy a mass produced, same-style commercial beer or a high quality, wide variety amd most times super-expensive craft beer. The good news is that there is a third option which is also high quality, wide variety, yet inexpensive homemade beer.

The advantages of homebrewing are many and although brewing your own beer has become more and more popular in recent years it is still a hobby of the few. I myself didn’t even know that you can brew your own beer at home; and that brewing beer is legal in almost all countries until a friend gave me a taste of his homemade beer.

First I thought he was joking when he said that he made the beer he gave me but I quickly realized that when it comes to beer he is always serious. That was the day when I became a beer explorer (aka homebrewer).

There is a lot of information out there on homebrewing but I have never seen all the advantages collected in one place and for that reason I have created a short „list” why I believe hombrewing is for you!

1. Wide variety

The great thing about homebrewed beer is that it is not only cheap but the varieties are pretty much endless. Did you know that there are more beer types than wine types? Yes, it is true! There are thousands and thousands of kinds of beer and most of us don’t know about them, as we only know the old same style commercial beer. Funny thing is that since I started brewing I always managed to find a beer that someone likes. Do you have a friend who doesn’t like beer? Well, I bet you that there is a beer that he or she likes, it’s just he or she hasn’t tasted it yet.

2. High quality – with the right equipment

Homebrewed beer is very high quality. If you follow the recipe precisely, use the right techniques (or use an automated system) and quality ingredients your beer will be higher quality than anything that you can buy in a shop. If you brew manually it takes time and patients as there is more room for errors – this is also an option – but nowadays you can get semi or fully automated systems that give you more control and makes brewing easier. The more automated the system is the more time you save and the more precise your brew will be, resulting in high quality beer.

3. Low cost

Brewing beer at home is very cost-effective. Whereas craft beers are usually super-expensive however the fact is that the ingredients are not. When buying your own hops, malt and yeast and in case you have good quality tap water you can brew a high quality craft beer for 50 cents per bottle! Sounds unbelievable, right? Here is an example.

4. Fun

Brewing beer is not only cost-effective and useful in many ways, but also fun! Just like with every other hobby, the love of creation will bring you many joyful moments and the challenge of crafting new recipes is really exciting! Exploring new ingredients, new hops, new types of malt, there will always be a new beer to taste. Brewing beer is also just as social as drinking beer. People who brew beer love to exchange knowledge with others and they are very active online. You can join communities such as the Beer Explorers Club where you can learn techniques from veteran brewers, share recipes and find free educational material on brewing beer. By brewing your own beer a whole new world will open up to you

5. Cool

So since you are here you have probably thought about having your own beer. What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of this? Hmm, what is that? Yes, that’s right! It is the „How cool is that!”moment. To be honest it is even cooler than you think. Mega cool! If your friends are not hanging out with you already they definitely will be once you show them your first beer. So if you want to be in the center of your group of friends, have a good conversation starter or something special to show off, brewing your own beer is a great way to do that. Just try to keep up with the demand.

Summing up:

Brewing your own beer saves you serious money per bottle, it opens up a whole new world of flavors and just simply put: it is cool!

So what are you waiting for?
